It is important that the conditions are suitable for children to be able to learn at home. At Ark Atwood, your children are used to a structure timetable to facilitate learning. Clearly this cannot be fully replicated at home but these considerations should support you in facilitating successful learning at home:
- Work out your working hours, timetable and dedicated learning space.
- Set ground rules and expectations around independent work from the outset. For example, how much work is needed before break; how long will breaks be; set times for independent work (a timer might be helpful); what time working should end; and continually refer to expectations about presentation of work.
- Provide time for physical exercise breaks and offline time. (Go Noodle is a good website for brain breaks, indoor workouts, dance routines etc / the Body Coach will be doing live workouts at 9am every day and these will be streamed for children on Youtube)
- The table below provides an example timetable based on the Atwood timetable. Timings are suggested and would be extended/reduced depending on the age of your child/children.
